Swami Vivekananda’s Visit and the Foundation of the Ramakrishna Movement in Puducherry
In 1893, during his journey from Kanyakumari to Chennai, Swami Vivekananda visited Puducherry along with his disciples. This visit, which took place before his historic address at the Chicago Parliament of Religions, laid the foundation for the Ramakrishna Movement in the region.
With the unwavering support of devotees and followers of Sri Ramakrishna, the spiritual legacy of Swami Vivekananda flourished in Puducherry, leading to the establishment of Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangham in 1984.
To ensure the continuity of its noble activities, the members of Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangham requested the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission Headquarters at Belur Math, Kolkata, to take over its administration. Accepting their request, the Headquarters established a Sub-centre of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, in Puducherry on 18th March 2022.
Currently, construction of the new Math buildings is in progress at Karuvadikuppam, and upon completion, the Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangham will be formally integrated into the Math.

Foundation Laying Ceremony & Project Overview
At present, Ramakrishna Math, Puducherry, is functioning temporarily from a small house in Lawspet. In 2023, 18,609 sq. ft. of land was acquired in Karuvadikuppam for the construction of the new Math buildings. The foundation stone for this was laid by Srimat Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj on 16th February 2023.

Temple Block – Estimated Cost
The heart of the Puduval math is the Shrine. Here, the serene atmosphere is bound to draw the mind to a higher plane. Mangalarati, Puja, Aratrikam and Bhajans etc.. happen here regularly.
The Jayanti celebrations of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Saradadevi and Swami Viekananda, important religious events like Sri Guru Purnima, Navaratri, Sri Krishna Jayanti, Sri Ganesha Chaturthi, Shivaratri etc., will be celebrated in the temple.
There will be an auditorium on the first floor for conducting spiritual retreats.
